GAME ONE -- DSC 3 HPU 1    |  GAME TWO -- DSC 5 HPU 7

KANEOHE, Hawaii
-- The Dixie State College softball team maintained first place in the PacWest Conference race with a split winning 3-1 and dropping the second game 7-5 over Hawaii Pacific University.

In game one the Red Storm (32-11, 22-4 PWC) offense used timely hitting to secure them the victory.

Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) led the game off with a single to left field and moved to second base on a Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) groundout. Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) then reached on a fielding error and Judkins scored on the miscue.

In the second frame, a Kourtnie Schlacter (Mira Loma. CA/Jurupa Valley High School) walk, Ryanne Dacosin (Kaneohe, HI/Castle High School) bunt single and a Judkins single to center field loaded the bases for the Red Storm. Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) was hit by a pitch and the Red Storm led 2-0. Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) then lined into a double play to end the inning.

The lone HPU (35-10, 21-5 PWC) run came in the bottom half of the second inning when they would score on a Red Storm miscue.

The game remained 2-1 until Cue hit her 12th home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning to give DSC a 3-1 lead.

Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) pitched a complete game allowing only one run on ten hits while striking out two Sea Warrior batters.

In game two, the Sea Warriors jumped out to an early 5-0 lead by scoring all five runs in the third frame. They took advantage of two Red Storm errors that chased starter Brittnie Miller (Moab. UT/Grand High School) and added extra pressure to reliever Folta.

The Red Storm battled back scoring runs in each of the next three frames. DSC scored two runs in the third inning, two in the fourth and one in the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5.

HPU broke the tie in the top of the 6th scoring two runs on three hits off reliever Folta. HPU would hang on to win 7-5.

Folta picked up her 16th win in game one and took her 6th loss in game two, despite pitching twelve effective innings today.

By splitting the two games with HPU, the Red Storm maintain a one game lead over the Sea Warriors in the PacWest race and are percentage points ahead of Hawaii Hilo who they play on Monday afternoon in Hilo.

DSC has only two games remaining on their schedule, while HPU has four and Hilo has six. HPU and Hilo are scheduled to play each other on April 30th. If DSC wins both games over Hilo they will secure themselves their first PacWest Championship and with a split they will secure themselves at least a share of the title.
