SB: Red Storm Drop Two Games at Tournament of Champions.

TURLOCK, CA-The Dixie State College softball team ended up on the wrong end of two games today at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, CA. The Red Storm (15-7) was blanked 7-0 by Sonoma State and an 8-7 heartbreaker to San Francisco State.

In the first game today Sonoma State pitchers Lipperd and Becerril stymied the Dixie State offense. In three innings of work Lipperd allowed no hits, no runs and struck out seven.

Ryanne Dacosin (Kaneohe, HI/Castle High School) finally earned the only Red Storm hit in the bottom of the fifth inning of Becerril. She pitched four-shutout innings in relief to earn the victory.

For DSC, Brittnie Miller (Moab. UT/Grand High School) dropped to 6-2 and lasted only 3 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs on six hits. Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) pitched solid in relief allowing only two hits and striking out one.

In the second game the Red Storm scored first on a Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) RBI groundout. Miller singled home Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) to give DSC the 2-0 lead.

San Francisco State battled back in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game at two.

Ashley McFarland (Layton. UT/Layton High School) lead the 4th inning off with single down the field line and she later stole second base. Two batters later, Cue singled up the middle scoring McFarland giving DSC a 3-2 lead.

Kelly Wood hit a solo home run in the bottom of fifth inning to tie the game up at three.

Lexi Hart (Bountiful, UT/Bountiful High School) led the 7th off with a double to right center and Dacosin would follow with a walk. Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) laid down a SAC bunt and reached on a throwing error by the pitcher. Hart would score on the play.

McFarland and Mendenhall walked and Cue picked up her third and fourth RBI with a single to left field giving the Red Storm a 6-3 advantage.

In the bottom half of the 7th, SFSU battled back with three runs on three hits to send the game to extra innings and force the international tiebreaker.

Kourtnie Schlacter (Mira Loma. CA/Jurupa Valley High School) would be placed on second to start the inning and Hart poked an RBI single down the left field line to take a 7-6 lead.

After placing a runner on second base, the Red Storm would pick her off second base. Only need two more outs, SFSU hit two consecutive singles and earned a walk to load the bases. They would tie the game on a passed ball and win the game on an error on Mendenhall at first base.

Hart and Cue had two hits a piece and Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) would take the loss dropping to 2-1 on the season.

Dixie State's will play in the silver bracket against UC San Diego at 1:00 PM MT. If they win they will play the winner of San Francisco State and Montana State Billings at 3:30 PM MT for bracket honors. Follow all the action on live stats via DixieAthletics.com.
