PHOENIX, Ariz. –
Dixie State College earned a bit of revenge Saturday night upending the host Antelopes of Grand Canyon University 70-59 in Pacific West Conference action at Antelope Gymnasium.

Senior guard Donovan Plunkett (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) connected on six of seven shots on the night including three from beyond the arc for a season-high 19 points to pace Dixie State (12-5, 5-2 PWC). McKay Massey (Payson, UT/Payson) added 10 points. The duo of Tom Whitehead (St. George, UT/Dixie) and Griffon Jones (Cheney, WA/Cheney) combined for 19 of the Storm's 42 team boards.

Grand Canyon (10-7, 5-2 PWC) leapt out of the gates to an 11-2 lead over the first seven minutes. Dixie State chipped away before tying the proceedings at 18-18 at the 5:58 mark.

The Storm dominated the next four minutes in reeling off 12 straight points. Dixie State took a 31-24 lead at the break.

Dixie State extended the lead to 15 early in the second half. The Lopes closed to within seven with 2:19 left. GCU employed a “Hack-a Storm” technique to save time and force the Red Storm to knock down pressure free throws. Dixie State responded by netting 13-of-15 freebies to ice away the conference victory on the road.

GCU guard Brad Carroll led the Antelopes with 12 points.

Dixie State shot 48.8-percent from the field on the night while holding GCU to under 34-percent. DSC dominated the battle of the boards 42 to 23.

The Red Storm return home on Thursday for the first of five straight games at the Burns Arena to face Dominican University. Tip time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
