WBB GAME NOTES: #12 Dixie State Welcomes Hawaii Hilo and Hawaii Pacific

THIS WEEK
-The #12-ranked Dixie State College of Utah women's basketball continues their five game home stand this week. They welcome on Thursday the Vulcans of the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Saturday the Sea Warriors of Hawaii Pacific. Both games are scheduled for a 5:30 PM MT tip-off inside the Burns Arena.

RED STORM WATCH
- Rebounding with two home wins this last week over 87-66 over Dominican and a record setting 103-57 win over Academy of Art. It was the most points scored in a D2 game. The Red Storm look to be firing on all cylinders, Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) named player of the week for the PacWest, scored 32 points on Saturday and 18 points on Thursday night. Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) continued her consistent ways of 22 points and 12 respectively. The Red Storm are shooting a stellar .468 percent from the field, sixth best in the country. Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) are in the top 20 in that percentage with Hill (9th) at 58.4 and Brown (17th) at 55.9. The Red Storm also lead the country in blocks as a team with 6.1 per game. Erica Carlson (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) leads in that category with 3.9 per game. With the 9th scoring offense in the country with 80.5 ppg , and like to play a high low offense. They distribute the ball very well with three players averaging in double figures. Their achilles heel is turnovers, averaging 19.4 per game, they sometimes become sloppy with the ball. DSC is out rebounding their opponents by 9.4 per game and hold them to just 61.0 ppg.

Red Storm Fast Break tidbits :

Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) missed the single game scoring record with 32 on Saturday against Academy of Art, just 1 point off Jessie Ingraham (Tuscon. AZ/Canyon Del Oro)'s 1/16/10 performance against the same squad.
Career Scoring Ranks: #2 Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) (623, 165 points behind #1 Jessica Carver) #4 Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) (559, 26 points behind #3 Deney Phommabout) Leader is Jessica Carver with 788 career points.
With her steal on Thursday night against Dominican, Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) became the all-time steals leader with 108. She passed Tanya Clark (Beaumont. CA/Beaumont) who had 107.

THURSDAY OPPONENT: HAWAII HILO- Having dropped the last two games they have played, Hawaii Hilo visits the high desert for the first time this season. Hilo enters todays contest with a 9-10 record overall and 5-6 in PacWest play. Leading scorer Hillary Hurley, who also doubles as a All-PacWest Volleyball player, averages 15.9 ppg and 10.6 rpg. She is shooting 61.2 percent from the field and has led the Vulcans in scoring in 12 of the 19 games. Besides Hurley they have a trio of players that average in the 7-8 point range per game. Similar to the Red Storm, they turn the ball over at an average of 22.3 turnovers per game. The Sea Warriors and the Red Storm went to battle in Saint George on 3/4/10 with DSC winning 99-56. Hawaii-Hilo is 0-4 inside the Burns Arena and DSC holds a 6-2 series advantage.

SATURDAY OPPONENT: HAWAII PACIFIC
- Leading the PacWest with a 10-1 record and 16-4 overall. The Sea Warriors are making their first trip to the East side of the league. They will play Grand Canyon on Thursday night and make the short trip to Saint George for Saturday's match up. They have won 15 of their last 16 games, thanks to the play of Jazzmin Awa-Williams who is scoring 12.2 ppg and Mana Hopkins who averages 12.1 ppg. They shoot the ball at a 42.0 percent from the field and just .266 from three point range. The Red Storm won the last battle on 3/6/10 99-80 in Saint George. HPU is 0-3 lifetime inside the Burns and DSC holds the series advantage 7-1.
