SB: Red Storm Slug Themselves Past Humboldt State

Box Score LAS VEGAS, NV-The Dixie State College Softball team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 17-9 rout of Humboldt State University in 6 innings on Saturday night at the Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas, NV.

Dixie State struck first on a Ashley McFarland (Layton. UT/Layton High School) two run home run to give the Red Storm a 2-0 lead. Two batters latter after Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) reached, Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) would deposit the pitch into the parking lot to give DSC a quick 4-0 lead.

Humboldt State would battle back and get to Red Storm starter Brittnie Miller (Moab. UT/Grand High School) and they would take a 9-6 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

Kylee Higgins (Layton. UT/Layton High School) would come to bat with the bases loaded in the bottom half of the 4th inning and hit a grand slam to give DSC 10-9 lead and they would keep it for good. Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) would also hit a home run in the inning.

DSC would add 7 more runs to run-rule the Jacks in six innings.
