ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College never trailed at home Saturday night en route to a dominating 99-54 Pacific West Conference action inside the Burns Arena.

“Great teams play good no matter who they play,” said head coach Jon Judkins. “We are starting to do that.”

The victory catapulted Dixie State into a four-way tie for first place in the Pacific West with BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade and Grand Canyon.

All 12 Red Storm players in uniform scored at least four points. Dixie State (14-5, 7-2 PWC) had five score in double figures led by Tom Whitehead (St. George, UT/Dixie) with 16 points. Junior guard Maurice Cole (Norwalk, CA/Santa Fe) flirted with a triple-double scoring 15 points, snaring eight rebounds and dishing out eight assists.

Rounding out the scoring quintet was Solomon Jensen (Centerville, UT/Viewmont) with 12 points, Griffon Jones (Cheney, WA/Cheney) with 11 points and Everton Araujo (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Torquato Caleiro) with 10 points.

Academy of Art (5-17, 2-10 PWC) struggled to shoot 28.1-percent from the floor for the night – consistently stymied by the Red Storm's match-up zone.

Freshman forward William Overton notched 16 points pacing the Urban Knight offense.

Dixie State showed flashes of the old 1980's Los Angeles Lakers “Showtime” pizazz. Steals led to fast breaks and easy buckets including a pair of Derek Owen (St George, UT/Dixie) throw-down slam-dunks.

The Red Storm welcomes the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans to the Burns on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
