VB: Dixie State drops match to Hawaii Pacific

BOX SCORE

SAINT GEORGE, Utah
– The Dixie State College volleyball team dropped a PacWest Conference match 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-22) tonight at the Student Activities Center to Hawaii Pacific University.

Facing some adversity with freshman setter Jen Hardman (American Fork, UT/American Fork) out with an ankle injury, the Red Storm turned to sophomore libero Brittany Kelly to be the primary setter.

Kelly finished the match-high's in assists at 39 and digs at 32.

“We battled as a team tonight and show some great adversity, said Coach Darice Pratt. “If a few balls would have dropped our way, we win that match.”

The match saw points tossed to and fro like the leaves in the wind, but the Sea Warriors were able to prevail and capitalize on a few Red Storm miscues.

Dixie State was lead by senior Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City) with match high 18 kills and Britta Jensen added 14. It was the .137 hitting percentage and seven ball handing errors that made the difference in the match.

Hawaii Pacific had a strong showing from Natasha Bell who finished the match with 16 kills. The serving of the Sea Warriors seemed to give the Red Storm fits all night, HPU collected six service aces in the match.

Dixie State drops to 13-7 overall and 8-4 in the PacWest and Hawaii Pacific improves to 12-8 overall and 7-4 in PacWest play.

Same two teams will do battle tomorrow night in the SAC at 7:00 p.m.
