UP NEXT - The Dixie State College Men's Basketball Team (9-4, 2-1) competes in the final game of their San Francisco-area road trip against Notre Dame de Namur University on Saturday at 2 p.m. Pacific time (3 p.m. Mountain). The Red Storm defeated Dominican University 74-52 on Thursday for their second consecutive victory and fifth in the last six games. Notre Dame de Namur sports a record of 3-12, 1-4 in the Pacific West. In their most recent game, the Argos fell at home 83-70 against Grand Canyon. It was the first conference game at home for NDNU after starting the league with four games in Hawaii - the Argos came away with one victory over Hawaii Pacific.
RED STORM WATCH - The Red Storm, the defending PacWest Conference Co-Champions, is currently led by Tom Whitehead (St. George, UT/Dixie), averaging team-highs in points (15.9) and rebounds (5.2) per game. Griffon Jones (Cheney, WA/Cheney) is the only other Red Storm player in double-figures this season, accounting for 10.7 points per game and 5.1 boards. Dixie State is scoring 71.5 points per game and holding opponents to 61.5 points per contest - a full ten point differential. DSC is pulling down an average of 35.4 rebounds in a game and has been stingy on defense, forcing 16.2 turnovers each game with a +2.4 turnover margin.
THE OPPONENT - One might think after seeing Bennie Murray, last season's top scorer, transfer to Chaminade that the Notre Dame de Namur basketball team might struggle to find an identity. The person who thinks that would be wrong. The 2010-11 Argos have reloaded with junior college transfers to become one of the up-and-coming squads in the Pacific West. A record of 3-12, 1-4 does not indicate the competitiveness and closeness of NDNU's games this season. Opening the conference season in Hawaii, three losses came by a total of only 10 points (90-89 vs. Hilo, 84-77 vs. Chaminade and 60-57 vs. BYUH). NDNU held off Hawaii Pacific at the Blaisdell Center for a 61-59 victory. On Tuesday night, Notre Dame de Namur never held the lead dropping a PWC contest to Grand Canyon by 13 points. The Argonauts, coached by George Puou, are being led in scoring by Jeff Ford with 14.3 points per game and Arron Mollet at 14.1 PPG. Tyler Fricke and Nick Storment combine for just over ten rebounds. NDNU ranks eighth in the Pacific West in team scoring (67.7), fifth in field goal percentage (44.1) and seventh in field goal percentage defense (45.5).

APPROACHING CAREER MARKS - Tom Whitehead (St. George, UT/Dixie) ranks second with 836 points in 64 career games at Dixie State. To reach the 1,000-point benchmark, he needs to average 12.5 points in the remaining contests. To surpass current assistant coach Ryan Sanchez for the D-II scoring record (1,052), Whitehead will need 16.3 PPG. Jeremiah Barnes (Compton, CA/Los Altos) sits fourth on the D-II assist list with 147 dimes. To pass Adam Ross (Torrance. CA/North Torrance ) for third, he needs only seven assists. Reaching Dan Stock's record of 238 helpers, Barnes will need 7.0 assists over the final 13 Pac West games. Also approaching a milestone is head coach Jon Judkins - he is 10 wins away from number 100 in his Dixie State College tenure and 26 wins away from 400 for his career.
ROAD WARRIORS - Dixie State College racked up the frequent flyer miles in the non-conference schedule playing nine of their first 10 games away from the Burns Arena. DSC is 5-1 in true road games (including both so far on the SF Road Trip) and 3-2 in neutral court games played in tournament action. Mesa State handed Dixie its lone road loss 65-57 in the championship game of a Thanksgiving tournament on Nov. 27.
