WBB GAME NOTES: To the IGLOO the Red Storm GO

TODAY'S GAME -The #13-ranked Dixie State College of Utah women's basketball team will continue their San Francisco Bay Area road trip with a game at the Penguins of Dominican University. The two are scheduled to tip-off at 6:30 PM MT inside the “Igloo” or the Conlan Center in San Rafael, CA.

THE RECORDS-Meeting for the first time in the 2010-11 campaign, The Red Storm are 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the PacWest. Domincan is 3-11 overall and 1-3 in the PacWest. DSC won the last meeting 82-65 in Saint George on 2/25/10. DSC also won the last battle in San Rafael 83-62 on 1/18/10. The Red Storm are 1-1 on the road, losing the battle on 11/18/06 74-55, but holds the series advantage 2-1.

ROAD TRIP: Dixie State is on a three game road swing to the San Francisco Bay Area. Having already defeated Academy of Art 76-50 on Monday night, the Red Storm do battle on Thursday at Dominican and Saturday at Notre Dame de Namur. Dixie State went 2-1 on this same road swing last year.

RED STORM WATCH - The Red Storm are coming off a 76-50 win over Academy of Art on Monday night and will look to build on their four game win streak. The Red Storm shot 49 percent from the field and were paced by Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial )'s (17 pts, 12 reb) sixth double-double of the year. For Dixie State to be successful they will need to shoot the ball well and minimize their turnovers. The Red Storm like to shoot he long ball and are average 30 percent from behind the arc. Once again Erica Carlson (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) added three blocks against the Urban Knights and averages 3.5 blocks per game and is ranked 3rd in the nation in that category. As of team DSC is 4th in the nation at 5.8 blocks per game. DSC is also the 18th ranked scoring offense in the nation, averaging 76.9 per game.

Gabriella Rodriguez (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) scored a career high 13 points in the win over AAU. She connected on 3 three pointers help to extend the Red Storm first half lead.
Career Scoring Ranks: #4 Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) (526, 11 points behind #3 Jessie Ingraham (Tuscon. AZ/Canyon Del Oro)) #5 Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) (498, 28 points behind #4 Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane)) Leader is Jessica Carver with 788 career points.
With 45 blocks this year, Erica Carlson (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) is 2nd on the the career list and 50 blocks off leader Jessica Carver. She is only 3 swats away from setting a single season record for blocks. Carver had 48 in 2007-08.


SCOUTING DOMINICAN - Dominican is 3-7 in their last ten gams and most recently returned from the Hawaiian Islands. The trip did not treat them so well, going 1-3 and lost to a Chaminade team who had a 30 game losing streak. They did beat BYU-Hawaii 65-61, they lost their last time out at Hawaii Pacific 66-56. The Penguins don't shoot the ball particularly well, connecting on 32.8 percent from the field, they average 22.5 turnovers per game. They do Shoot 28.9 percent from hehind the arc and have attempted over 260 shots. They have one player in double figures, Kelsey Janusch is averaging 12.7 ppg. Dominican scores 53.1 points per game and gives up 57.0 per game. The active Red Storm defense will look to put pressure on the front court of the Penguins and capitalize on the turnovers.
