SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (January 17) – Senior shooting guard Donovan Plunkett (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) connected on half of his 12 shots en route to a season-high 18 points leading Dixie State College to a 78-63 road victory against Academy of Art University in Pacific West Conference play.

The Red Storm (8-4, 1-1 PWC) won despite shooting 24-of-68 from the floor. The 35.3-percent mark was the lowest this season during a DSC victory. Griffon Jones (Cheney, WA/Cheney) had 12 points and nine rebounds. Solomon Jensen (Centerville, UT/Viewmont) with 12 points and Tom Whitehead (St. George, UT/Dixie) with 10 rounded out four DSC players in double figures.

Defense stepped up and kept the Urban Knights (3-13, 0-5) to 31.9-percent, nearly 10 percent lower than their season average. Keith Davis led all scorers in the game with 19 points.

Dixie State led by as many as 12 in the first half, but took just a six-point lead to the halftime break, 34-28. The Urban Knights closed within two points in the first five minutes of the second half.

Plunkett provided the momentum shifter draining back-to-back threes to put the Red Storm up 54-42 with 10:54 remaining.

Academy of Art closed the gap to seven off a Davis triple a minute later. Dixie State responded with a strong 6-0 run capped by a Jones dunk. Dixie State scored seven of the final nine points from the free-throw line to ensure victory.

Dixie State tied a school record with 51 rebounds. The Storm bested the team board battle 51-46. AAU's Hunter Hayden ripped down 20 rebounds in defeat.

The Bay Area road trip continues Thursday night when Dixie State faces Dominican University in the Conlan Center at 7:30 p.m. (PST)
