WSOC: Davis Doubles Up on HPU

Junior gets both goals in PWC win

ST. GEORGE, UTAH (Sept. 30) –
With a pair of second half goals from Whitley Davis (Sandy, UT/Brighton), the Dixie State Red Storm women's soccer team beat Hawaii Pacific University 2-0 snapping a two-match Pacific West Conference losing skid.

The junior defender attacked aggressively throughout the match and earned a penalty kick at 71:17 off a Nicole Craig yellow card. Davis's PK scored to the right side after HPU goalkeeper Carianne Makino dove the opposite direction.

Three minutes later, Davis favored the left corner of the net with a header for her fourth goal of the season. Camille Peterson-Jensen set up the score with a perfect corner kick.

The Dixie State defense held the Sea Warriors to only four shots on goal. GK April Beck (American Fork, UT/American Fork) cleaned up everything she saw in the shutout.

Dixie State improved to 3-2-0 in the Pac West and 6-3 overall. HPU falls to the break-even mark of 2-2 in the PWC (2-5-1 overall).

The Red Storm and Sea Warriors battle again on Saturday evening at 7:30pm Mountain at Hansen Stadium.

NOTES: DSC women's soccer became the first team on campus to notch a victory on the renovated Field Turn at Hansen Stadium. Both soccer teams will play on the surface again before the football teams debuts on the surface during Homecoming festivities on October 9.
