SAN RAFAEL, CA-The Dixie State College women's volleyball team won for the second consecutive night over Dominican University in straight sets, 25-20, 25-21, 26-24.
Dixie State (7-3, 2-0 PACWEST) trailed 2-5 early but rallied for a 9-3 run to take lead an 11-8 lead over the Penguins. Dominican (2-11, 0-2 PACWEST) ragained the lead at 16-15, but saw the Red Storm close the match out with four straight points, three of which came by
Melissa Fifita (Midvale, UT/Cottonwood) kills.
In the second set, DSC continued to roll, taking an early 4-0 lead. The Red Storm committed three straight errors allowing the Penguins to even the score early in the set. The Red Storm rallied again taking eight of the next 10 points capped off by a
Morgan Hill (Logan. UT/Logan) kill to go ahead at 16-11. DSC paced themselves to take the 2nd set 25-21.
In the final set, Dominican opened the set on a 7-3 run and led before the Red Storm rallied again to tie the set at 17-17. The teams exchanged points until 24-24 when consecutive kills by
Madisyn Fitzgerald (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View) and
Melissa Fifita (Midvale, UT/Cottonwood) gave Dixie State the three set sweep.
Fifita hit a stellar .324 and finished with a match-high 15 kills, follwed by Fitzgeralds eight kills and flock block assists. Setter Kimee Clark added 25 assists. The Red Storm had also collected nine blocks as a team.
The Red Storm will play its first home match of the year on Oct 1st and 2nd, playing host to Academy of Art University.
