SAN RAFAEL, CA-The Dixie State College volleyball team opened its PacWest Conference season with a straight set's victory over Domincian University 25-13, 25-23, 25-23.
The Red Storm (6-3, 1-0 PACWEST) opened with a torrent pace, capitalizing on the mistakes that the Penguins (2-10, 0-1 PACWEST) made, wiinning 25-13 in the first set.
In the second set, Dominican turned the tide, jumping out to an early 12-9 lead before seeing the Red Storm rattle off six straight point to go ahead 15-12. Brita Noble and
Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City) each picked up two kills in the swing. DSC saw the Penguins battle to within a point at 23-22, before a Dominican kill and two errors gave the Red Storm a 25-23 victory.
The final set saw DSC trail early 3-0, before rallying to score 10 straight points to lead 14-6. Dominican took its turn at a run, trailing 22-12, they rattled off 10 straight of their own to tie the set at 22-22 a piece. The Red Storm turned to
Melissa Fifita (Midvale, UT/Cottonwood) to gived the 23-22 lead adn
Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City) collected a kill and served the Red Storm to 25-23 victory.
Tonight for the Red Storm was a very balanced attack,
Melissa Fifita (Midvale, UT/Cottonwood) and
Madisyn Fitzgerald (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View) each had eight kilss, followed by
Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City)'s six kills. Kimee Clarkk added 21 assistsa and libero
Jayci Jeffress (Brighton. CO/Brighton) collected 24 digs.
The two teams will battle again tomorrow at 7:00 PM.
