GUNNISON, CO-After a dismal first day at the Western State College tournament, the Red Storm volleyball team rebounded to pick up two victories today. In the morning match, Dixie State defeated Western State College 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-20) and closed out CSU-Pueblo 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-11) in the afternoon match.
Against Western State, the Red Storm had four players in double figures in kills with Brita Noble leading the way with 13 and
Morgan Hill (Logan. UT/Logan),
Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City), and
Shannon Young (Whittier, CA/St Paul) each collecting 10 a piece. DSC hit a stellar .221 from the floor and racked up eight blocks as a team.
In the final game and for the second straight day, Dixie State and CSU-Pueblo went the distance. This time the Red Storm was able to hold off the late push of CSUP.
Noble again led the way with a season high 16 kills, followed by 13 kills from Shearer and
Madisyn Fitzgerald (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View) picked up 10 in the middle. Fitzgerald also collected two solo block and three assisted leading the Red Storm to 10 team blocks on the afternoon.
With the win the Red Storm improve to 5-3 and will have the next weekend off before opening up PacWest Conference play at Dominican University on the 24th and 25th of September.
