ALAMOSA, COLORADO –
With high expectations entering the season, the Dixie State Red Storm left the turf disappointed dropping the 2010 opener 34-14 to the host Grizzlies of Adams State on Saturday afternoon at Rex Stadium.

The Grizzlies (1-0) outgained Dixie State (0-1) by nearly 400 total yards (576 to 190) and coasted through the second half holding no less than a 20-point lead.

Kyser Christensen (Boise. ID/Centennial) led the Storm offensively catching four balls for 102 yards. Nash Fowler (Orem, UT/Timpanogas HS) also had four receptions totaling 56 yards and the team's lone offense touchdown.

Starting quarterback Nick Marinko (Washington, UT/Pineview) struggled in the first half hitting of two of nine passes and finished the game going 2-for-12. Cody Stevenson (Sandy, UT/Juan Diego), a true freshman, produced two, solid second-half drives. He completed six of 12 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.

Adams State struck first with a Trevor Eggleston 50-yard touchdown pass to Scott Kellogg capping a seven-play, 94-yard drive. The lead increased to 13-0 when Delton Prescott hauled in a six-yard TD catch, but the point after failed after a faulty snap.

The Grizzlies gambled on a fourth and goal at the one. A shovel pass was fumbled at the four and recovered by DSC safety Chris Aragon (Los Angeles, CA/Crespi Carmelite). He returned the football unpressured for 96 yards and a score.

Momentum gained by the defensive score quickly evaporated when ASC receiver Shane McBurney snagged an 85-yard strike from Eggleston. Minutes later, James Ackel intercepted a Jake Lammers (Jerome, ID/Jerome) pass and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown.

After a quiet third quarter for scoring, Adams State posted their final score with a 45-yard scamper up the middle from Terjean Safffold.

Fowler's reception in the end zone with 8:03 left closed the gap, but Dixie State could not produce any more points.

Eggleston tallied 338 yards through the air. McBurney (150) and Scott Kellogg (114) eclipsed the century mark receiving while Saffold went for 112 yards on the ground.

The road loss is DSC's seventh in a row dating back to the beginning of the 2009 season.

Dixie State returns home to face preseason #5 Central Washington on September 4 at 7:00pm at Hansen Stadium.
