Red Storm defeat Academy of Art 5-2 and 6-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISBANE, CA-The Dixie State College softball team team continued their winning ways today by defeating the Urban Knights of Academy of Art University 5-2 and 6-0.

The win gave the Red Storm 12 consecutive wins and 14 in their last 15 games.

Brittnie Whipple pitched her third consecutive shutout and ran her streak to 21 consecutive scoreless innings pitched.

The Red Storm took the first game 5-2, before shutting out the Urban Knights in the nightcap 6-0.

Dixie State improved to 25-5 in Pac West play and 36-11 overall. The offense wasn't potent as usual, but it was effective nonetheless.

Bailie Hicken (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak High School) went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs scored and a RBI in Game 1. The five runs were enough for Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) who went the distance. Folta struck out eight, while allowing two runs on

In Game 2, the Red Storm held a 1-0 advantage entering the fifth before exploding for five more in the final two innings.

Ashley McFarland (Layton. UT/Layton High School) belted a two-run homer in the sixth. McFarland went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

All of the DSC's runs were just a cushion for Brittnie Whipple who struck out six and surrendered just two hits.

The two teams will meet again today at noon for the final Pac West doubleheader of the season.

"Academy of Art is good. They're a team that can really cause you problems," Dixie State coach Randy Simkins said. "If our pitchers throw like they did, we'll be fine. They worked ahead in the count. We made plays defensively, and they threw the ball really well."
