DSC Softball Blanks Penguins Twice to Sweep Series

Whipple tosses one-hit gem in finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The post-season push for the Dixie State College softball team continued with a pair of Pac West shutout wins against the Dominican Penguins on Thursday afternoon. Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) continued to shine in the series adding two RBI in the Storm's 7-0 opening victory. Brittnie Whipple tossed a second consecutive gem in an 8-0 win in six-innings to complete the series sweep.

Dixie State (32-11, 21-5 PWC) outscored the young Dominican (2-28, 2-24) squad 49-0 over the four-game series.

Brown plated the first run in the DSC second inning after leading off with a triple. She tallied her two RBI in the next frame with a single up the middle.

Shantae Hunter (Idaho Falls. ID/Idaho Falls High School) sparked the fourth by homering inside the park. DSC scored all seven runs in innings two through four.

Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) tossed a seven-hit shutout and struck out five to improve her season record to 18-5.

In game two, Whipple continued her dominance over the Penguins – a day after firing a no-hitter - hurling a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts. The junior allowed Dominican's only hit with two outs in the fourth. Whipple moves to 14-6 on the season.

Bailie Hicken (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak High School) had three hits while Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) and Cassi Merrill (Calgary, Alberta/Foundations for the Future Charter Academy) added two hits and three RBI a piece. Merrill's two-run triple in the sixth pushed DSC ahead by eight and ended the game via the run rule.

The #7-ranked softball team in the West Region, Dixie State continues their Bay Area road trip on Saturday against the Academy of Art University. First pitch of doubleheader action begins at 6:00pm Pacific time.
