Softball Drops Doubleheader at UC-San Diego

LA JOLLA, CA-The Dixie State College Softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to UC-San Diego today, losing 8-2 in game one and 3-2 in the nightcap.
 
In game one, the Tritons (13-9) used a 5 run fifth inning to hand Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) her third loss of the year and beat her up for 10 hits and eight earned runs. Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) managed to collect to of the four hits for the Red Storm (7-6), one of her hits was a solo home run to right center in the fourth inning.
 
In game two, UCSD scored two earned runs and one unearned run in the bottom of the first inning and were able to hold on for the victory. Brittnie Whipple held the Tritons at bay allowing just one more hit in the final five innings.
 
Bailie Hicken (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak High School) had three hits and Shantae Hunter (Idaho Falls. ID/Idaho Falls High School) added two more in a nine hit Red Storm attack that would end up stranding nine runners on base. Cue added an RBI double in the 5th inning plating Hicken.
 
The Red Storm will conclude their California road trip with a doubleheader tomorrow against Cal State San Bernardino at 2:00 PM MT.
