Box Score 2 SAINT GEORGE, UT - Dixie State's softball team continued its offensive flurry Tuesday, posting a doubleheader sweep of Chaminade by scores of 9-1 and 12-0.
But for all the runs the Red Storm put up, Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) and Brittnie Whipple's pitching can easily be overlooked.
The duo combined to allow just five hits against Silverswords.
Folta allowed one run on two hits, with four walks and two strikeouts, while Whipple allowed three hits, struck out five and had a pair of walks to earn her seventh win of the year.
"Our pitchers threw the ball well," Dixie State coach Randy Simkins said. "We put some runs on the board early. It helps our pitchers early and helps our pitchers a lot knowing the runs will be on the board. ... (Our pitchers) hit spots. We didn't walk as many people, so that's good. I was extremely pleased."
Simkins said the offense from Monday's games helped keep the ball rolling in the second set of games.
The Red Storm (15-8, 10-4 Pac West) scored 48 runs in the four games against the Silverswords (13-19, 10-14).
"Offense usually leads," Simkins said. "If you start swinging well, everything else follows. When you know you can score runs, that really takes the pressure off of the other parts of your game."
Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) went 5-for-8 with four RBI.
Dixie State will travel to Turlock, Calif. to take part in the Mizuno Tournament of Champions, starting Friday. The Red Storm are set to play six games in three days.
"It's just West region teams, so we'll see the best teams in the West region and see how we stack up," Simkins said.
