Daniels scores 23 points in Red Storm win over Hawaii Hilo

Win first game of Hawaii road trip

Box Score HILO, HI-Freshman forward Deanna Daniels (North Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) scored 23 points for the second consecutive game and led the Dixie State women's basketball team to a 73-64 victory over University of Hawaii at Hilo on Sunday night. Daniels shot 8-12 from the field and 7-11 from the charity stripe as well as collecting seven rebounds leading all scorers in the game. Senior forward Tanya Clark (Beaumont. CA/Beaumont) added 11 points and seven rebounds. Dixie State (11-7, 7-2) shot 37.9 percent from the field and was able to hold onto the rebounding advantage 42-40. DSC led 38-28 at the break and was able to force the Vulcans (6-16, 3-8) into 31 turnovers and converted those turnovers into 39 points. Leading UHH was Hina KImitete with 16 points and Amanda Muller with 15 points. This was the first game of the the Red Storm four game road trip to the Hawaiian Islands. Dixie State will play four games in six days and will most likely be a make it or break it road trip. Dixie State got some help from Grand Canyon tonight, they defeated the first place Hawaii Pacific 56-55. HPU had their two game lead cut one game, both DSC and GCU are one game back. DSC will play HPU on Saturday afternoon, the concluding game of the road trip. The Red Storm will be in action on Tuesday night at 5:30 PM HT (8:30 MT), when they travel to Chaminade on the main island of Oahu.
