Box Score LAS VEGAS, NV-Playing their third game in 24 hours and second game of the day, the Dixie State softball team dropped a non-conference game to Fort Lewis College 4-2 at the Desert Stinger in Las Vegas, NV.
Fort Lewis scored in the bottom of the first to take the early 1-0 lead. The Red Storm (2-1) would follow suit in the top of the second when
Ashley McFarland walked and then stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The next pitch (Layton. UT/Layton High School)Breanna Egge# flew out deep to left center collecting an sacrifice fly and an RBI when McFarland scored knotting the game at 1-1. In the top of the fifth inning,
Shantae Hunter would draw a two out walk and (Idaho Falls. ID/Idaho Falls High School)Kelsey Mendenhall would double to right center scoring Hunter, giving the Red Storm 2-1 lead.
Despite having runners at second and third in no outs in the top of the 6th, the Red Storm could not convert and add any insurance runs that they would eventually need. Leading off the bottom of the sixth, Red Storm pitcher
Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) would walk the first batter and allow the next to get a single up the middle. The Skyhawks would execute a sacrifice bunt, but an errant throw would allow all the runners to advance an additional base and tie the game at two. Folta would strike out the next batter, but allow Jordan Willis to single up the middle scoring the final two runs of the game and lead 4-2.
Despite a leadoff double from
Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School), Skyhawk pitcher Jayme Fuller would hold the Red Storm at bay in the top of the seventh to hold on the victory.
Dixie State is set to play its final two games of the tournament tomorrow at 2:00 PM against Colorado School of Mines and 4:00 PM against host school Montana State Billings.
