DSC defeats Univ. CO-Colorado Springs 20-6

Cue goes 4-5 with a HR and 4 RBI

Box Score LAS VEGAS, NV-Dixie State College opened its 2010 softball campaign with a statement making performance by defeating University of Colorado-Colorado Springs 20-6 on Friday night in Las Vegas, NV.

 After being scheduled to start at 6:00 PM PST and not getting started until 8:20 PM, the delay didn't seem to have much effect on the Red Storm and their red hot bats. Dixie State jumped to an early lead when speedster Bailie Hicken (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak High School) lead the game off with an infield single, followed by a single to left field by newcomer Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School)

Next up was sophomore sensation Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) who doubled to the gap scoring Hicken from second base. In the second frame, Cue hit a 2 run homer and McFarland added a 2 run homer of her own in a seven run second frame. Cue who would finish her first collegiate game going 4-5, with three singles and a home run. 

Six other Red Storm player collected at least two hits and two others had one hit each. Dixie State twenty runs was the most runs scored in a game since February 02, 2008 when they scored 24 runs against Northwest Nazarene. 

Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) pitched three effective innings giving up one run, three hits and struck out three. Getting the win in relief was Jessica Tracy who pitched two innings. 

Dixie State will play two game on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 PM PST and 2:00 PM PST. GAME 

NOTES:Today's game was finished on Sunday Feb 14th at 11:00 AM due to a light ordinance that shut the lights out at 10:00 PM on Friday night.
