VB: Shearer and Noble lead Red Storm to victory over Grand Canyon in final match

PHOENIX, Arizona-The Dixie State College volleyball team won a four set match over Grand Canyon University 25-22, 23-25, 25-12, and 25-22. The Red Storm improved to 15-9 overall and 10-6 in PacWest play. Today's match concluded their 2010 campaign.

Led by Alex Shearer and Brita Noble's 13 kills and the defensive play of Jayci Jeffress (Brighton. CO/Brighton), who had a school record 32 digs in four sets, gave the Red Storm the victory.

Dixie State hit .227 for the match and had a combined for 10 team blocks. Morgan Hill (Logan. UT/Logan) had one block solo and five block solos to lead Dixie State. Also adding 11 kills of her own was middle blocker Madisyn Fitzgerald (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View) who had her 12th double-digit kill match of the season. Kimee Clark added at match-high 3 assists for the Red Storm.

Coach Gregg Jensen said, “we played well and I am proud of the girls and how they finished the season with three consecutive wins. We played with a lot of purpose the last two nights.”

Grand Canyon's Stephanie McBride had a match-high 14 kills in the loss that dropped the Antelopes to 10-19 overall and 5-11 in the PacWest play. GCU managed to hit only .056 for the match.

Dixie State concludes its third consecutive winning season and finished with 15 wins for the second straight time. The Red Storm have no seniors on the team this year and look forward to what the future has in store.
