Red Storm drop third straight, lose to BYU-Hawaii 3-1

Shearer has 12 kills

LAIE, HI-The Dixie State College volleyball team dropped its third consecutive match by losing to Brigham Young University Hawaii 28-26, 21-25, 21-25, 18-25 on Friday night.

 
The first game was a back-and-forth affair that neither team seemed destined to win, but the Red Storm finally prevailed.  Dixie State stormed out to a 15-8 lead in the second game but the Seasiders went on an 8-1 run to tie the game and took the lead for good at 20-19. The momentum from the comeback stayed with the Seasiders and they completed the comeback with two more wins to remain in second place in the PacWest.
 
Lauren Hagemeyer blasted 14 kills to lead the Seasiders. Aika Becker and Losaline Faka'osi knocked down 12 kills apiece and Tara Huckvale added nine. Nobuko Kotoyori led the way with 28 of the Seasiders' 86 digs and Becker served three of the team's nine aces. Huckvale and Courtney Skaggs each put up three blocks.
 
The Red Storm were led by Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City)'s 12 kills and Brita Noble and Shannon Young (Whittier, CA/St Paul) each added nine. Dixie State is now 12-9 for the season and 7-6 in the conference. Jayci Jeffress (Brighton. CO/Brighton) had 30 digs for the Red Storm.
 
The Red Storm and Seasiders do battle again tomorrow night in Laie at 7:30 pm in a Pacific West Conference match.
