SAINT GEORGE, UT- The Dixie State College volleyball team blocked their way to a victory on Tuesday night in the Student Activities Center by defeating Chaminade University 3-1 (22-25,25-10,25-13, 25-20).

 

The Red Storm (10-6, 5-3 PacWest) set a school-record with 16 team blocks in the match, with Madisyn Fitzgerald (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View) also setting a school-record with nine block assists. The previous team record was set on Monday night at 15 blocks against the Silverswords.

 

Chaminade (4-10, 1-6) battled back in the first set to win 25-22 behind the play of Allie Board who finished with a team-high 13 kills for the match.

 

DSC would rebound from the early collapse and dominate the next two sets, winning 25-10 and 25-13. The upfront net play of Fitzgerald and Morgan Hill (Logan. UT/Logan) (7 block assists) led the Red Storm to its control of the second and third sets.

 

DSC outside hitter Brita Noble finished with a match-high 16 kills, 14 digs, and five block assists. Fitzgerald added 12 kills of her own. Jayci Jeffress (Brighton. CO/Brighton) added 26 digs for the Red Storm.

 

The DSC teams finished with only 17 attack errors in the match, having seven of those come in the first set. DSC finished the match by hitting a solid .205.

 

The Red Storm will take the weekend off and will finish their eight-game home stretch by playing host to Notre Dame de Namur University on October 21st and 22nd. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7:00 PM and can be heard and seen live on www.dixieathletics.com.
