MBB: First Place Storm Battle NDNU Argonauts on Monday

Last conference unbeaten looks to defend home court

UP NEXT: Dixie State College of Utah hosts the Argonauts of Notre Dame de Namur University inside the Burns Arena on Monday, January 25 at 7:30pm Mountain.

 

THE RECORDS: DSC enters the game with an 11-3 record after sweeping all three Bay Area schools in the Pac West.  The Red Storm are 6-0 this year in the Burns Arena and have won 13 of the last 14 at home. The Argonauts of NDNU are 2-15 and 0-5 in the conference. Saturday night, NDNU fell to Grand Canyon on the road for the second consecutive game, 60-41. The Argos sport a 1-6 mark away from home.

 

ALL-TIME SERIES: Dixie State holds a 7-3 advantage in 10 games played against the Argonauts. The Red Storm have won six in a row in the series, last losing on Feb. 2, 2008 in Belmont, 52-47.

RED STORM WATCH: Dixie State has won six consecutive games for the first time in Division-II play. It is the longest streak since an 11-game junior college stretch from June-November 2004. Tom Whitehead (St. George, UT/Dixie) leads the team in scoring average at a 14.8 point per game clip. Donovan Plunkett (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) (13.3) and Andy Palmer (St. George. UT/Pine View) (12.1) also average double figures. Freshman center Zach Robbins (Upland, CA/Upland) paces the club pulling down 6.9 rebounds a game with Palmer (5.6) and Whitehead (5.1) following. Dixie State averages 73.8 points a game shooting 47.6% FG while allowing 66.8 points to opponents.

SCOUTING NDNU: The Argonauts are winless in conference and have not won a game since their non-conference finale on January 1 against Menlo College 70-69. In conference, the average margin of defeat for NDNU is 20.6 points per game. Talented sophomore guard Bennie Murray is the only Argo to average more than ten points a game pouring in 15 per contest. Murray also leads the team in rebounding at a 6.1 clip. Post player Nick Storment is second on the squad in scoring at just under ten points a game (9.6). In the first meeting with Dixie State, Murray had 18 points and Cheynne Lishman added 14 off the bench. Head coach George Puou is in his ninth season at NDNU with an overall record of 96-135.
