Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) leading the way with 16 points in a 83-62 victory over the Penguins of Dominican University.
Dominican (4-11, 1-3 PACWEST) a first year member of the Pacific West Athletic Conference and having just completed the transition from NAIA to the NCAA Division II hosted the Red Storm for the first meeting in history.
The Red Storm (8-6, 4-1) jumped to out to an early 18-8 lead with a 12-4 run. DSC would build their lead to twelve points with 11:23 left in the first half. The Penguins would follow with 18-6 run of their own to tie the game at 35 with 4:45 left. DSC would finish the half on a 9-0 run paced by
Amber Scruggs (Los Angeles, CA/Narbonne) with five points and a steal to take a 44-35 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, it was all the Red Storm. Brown scored 10 of her 15 points en-route to DSC building a 25 point lead with 5:07 left in the game. For the second consecutive game senior guard
Jessie Ingraham (Tuscon. AZ/Canyon Del Oro) scored in double figures, collecting 15 points. Also scoring in double figures was junior guard Scruggs with 11 points and senior forward
Tanya Clark (Beaumont. CA/Beaumont) adding 10 points.
Dixie State won the rebounding battle 45-26 with freshman forward
Deanna Daniels (North Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) collecting 11 rebounds.
Scoring 44 points in the paint helped the Red Storm shoot 50% from the field and their pressure defense forced 30 Penguin turnovers and converted them into 31 points.
Leading Dominican in scoring was Alisha Flaaten with 17 points.
After playing three games in five days the Red Storm with have six days off before playing host to Notre Dame de Namur on Monday Jan 25th. DSC will look to avenge their 61-64 loss this past Thursday. Tip off is set for 5:30 PM in the Burns Arena. Listen live to
