BOX SCORE
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Red Storm of Dixie State College never trailed on Saturday night inside the Bakar Fitness Center and outscored the Academy of Art University by 12 points in the second half to cruise to a 69-51 Pacific West Conference victory in the road.
Dixie State (10-3, 4-0 Pac West) got 16 point efforts from senior forward Andy Palmer (St. George. UT/Pine View) and freshman center Zach Robbins (Upland, CA/Upland). Donovan Plunkett (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) added 11 points, seven in the second half. Academy of Art (0-13, 0-3 Pac West) saw a season-best 16 points from Aaron Aikman off the bench.
The Red Storm shot 42-percent in the first half to take a 29-23 lead at the break. They upped the mark to 51.9-percent in the final twenty minutes and held AAU to 8-of-27 (29.6%) in the same span to earn the double digit win.
For the first time this season, Dixie State was held without a three-point bucket – normally a staple of the Red Storm offense. The 0-for-5 showing from distance was eased due to 23 points earned at the free-throw line.
The Red Storm completes their Bay Area swing Monday night at Dominican University in San Rafael. Tip time is 7:30pm Pacific (8:30pm Mountain).
