UP NEXT: Dixie State College of Utah plays the Academy of Art University Urban Knights on Saturday, January 16 at 8:30pm Mountain inside the Bakar Fitness Center on the campus of UCSF.

 

THE RECORDS: DSC enters the game with a 9-3 record – snapping a road skid with a 17-point win over Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday. The Red Storm are evened their road record to 3-3 away from the Burns Arena this season. Academy of Art is winless in 12 games and look for their first Pac West Conference win in an upset over the Red Storm.

 

ALL-TIME SERIES: Dixie State won the only meeting between the teams last season 78-62 in the Burns Arena. Andy Palmer (St. George. UT/Pine View) led Dixie State in the game with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

RED STORM WATCH: Dixie State takes to the road riding a three-game winning streak. DSC lost their last test on the road at nationally-ranked Western Washington on Dec. 29. Tom Whitehead (St. George, UT/Dixie) leads the team in scoring average at a 15.9 point per game clip. Donovan Plunkett (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) (13.5) and Andy Palmer (St. George. UT/Pine View) (11.8) also average double figures through five games. Freshman Zach Robbins (Upland, CA/Upland) paces the club pulling down 7.3 rebounds a game with Palmer (5.8) and Whitehead (5.0) following. Dixie State averages 74.2 points a game shooting 47.6% FG while allowing 68.2 points to opponents.

--- The Red Storm shot a school record 64.6-percent from the floor against NDNU on Thursday.

--- Donovan Plunkett (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) (13.5) has slipped ahead of assistant coach Ryan Sanchez (Ogden. UT/Fremont) (13.3) by two-tenths of a point for best career scoring average. Plunkett has played 11 games while Sanchez compiled his average over three seasons and 79 games. Kasey Winters, former DSC assistant coach and current head coach at Bear River HS, is the career D-II scoring average leader at 17.9 PPG during the 2007-08 season.

--- Schedule Time Change – The January 30th game on the road at Grand Canyon will tipoff at 7pm instead of 7:30pm.

 

SCOUTING ACADEMY OR ART: The Urban Knights may be winless on the season, but AAU has been competitive in their two Pac West losses. On Jan. 7, they held a second half lead before succumbing 80-69 to another conference unbeaten, the Hawaii Pacific Seas Warriors. In the short two-year history of the program, Academy of Art has a 4-34 overall record. Junior guard Phillip Samuel (11.2) is the only Urban Knight to average over ten points a game. Head coach Mark Sembrowich is in his first year at AAU. He was the Recruiting Coordinator at Stanford last season and has previously assisted at Army and Yale.
