BELMONT, CA – Dixie State College of Utah men's basketball team shot a school-record 64.6-percent from the field to defeat host Notre Dame de Namur University 83-66 on Thursday night at Walter Gleason Gymnasium.
The 31-for-48 performance helped the Red Storm (9-3, 3-0 PacWest) extend their current winning streak to four games while snapping a two-game road losing skid.
Andy Palmer (St. George. UT/Pine View) made seven shots amassing 17 points, corralling seven rebounds and dishing out three assists. Donovan Plunkett (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) and Tom Whitehead (St. George, UT/Dixie), current Pac West Player of the Week, each tallied 14 points. Making his first start, Jeremiah Barnes (Compton, CA/Los Altos) went 4-for-6 and made all four foul shots he took for 13 points.
The game saw both teams amass significant scoring runs in the first seven minutes. After a Whitehead lay-in, NDNU (2-12, 0-3) reeled off eight straight points. Dixie State answered right back with a 10-point spurt capped by a Plunkett three-ball and a lay-up by Zach Robbins (Upland, CA/Upland).
The Storm led by eight with a minute left in the first half. Argos guard Bennie Murray rattled off five points in a row to DSC's advantage to 36-33 at the half.
DSC took control of the game with a 9-0 run ending at the 15:14 mark on a jumper from Nick Howard (Sandy. UT/Jordan). The lead crested at 22 points with 2:06 left with a Palmer three-pointer.
Murray led all scorers with 18 points. Cheyenne Lishman racked up 14 points of the NDNU bench.
Dixie State returns to the court Saturday night to face Academy of Art University. The game will be played at the Bakar Fitness Center on the campus of UC San Francisco.
