Warriors Respond with Saturday Sweep

Lewis-Clark State's offense too much for Storm

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Very little went well for the Red Storm after Lewis-Clark State College posted a 10-run third inning in Saturday's doubleheader opener. The NAIA nationally-ranked club's offense overmatched the Storm on Senior Day at Bruce Hurst Field. The Warriors swept both games by scores of 21-11 and 5-2.

Dixie State had a six-game winning streak snapped and fell to a 29-19 record for the year.

Preston Grimes (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) tossed two solid innings in the opener, but worked his way into massive troubles in the third. After two hits and the first of three walks loaded the bases, Grimes (6-2) did not record an out allowing seven earned runs. LCSC tagged three more runs in the frame off reliever Tim McMahon (Littleton. CO/Heritage).

The Warriors clubbed six homers en route to 21 runs, the most given up by Dixie State this year.

Down by 16 in the ninth, DSC made things interesting plating six runs on three home runs by pinch-hitter Jordan Hanley (Las Vegas. NV/Bonanza), Jimmy Dever (Tuscon. AZ/Catalina Foothills HS) and Alex Rosenhan (Highland. UT/Alta HS). Earllier in the game, Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) blasted his 17th homer, a solo shot.

Matt Stablefeld (4-0) went six innings allowing five runs to earn the game one win.

In the second contest, DSC senior Tyson Bailey (Mesa. AZ/Westwood HS) could not keep the Warriors at bay. A single and a subsequent error in the third scored two for LCSC. Solo homers by Paul Martin and Sean Halton pushed Lewis-Clark ahead for good. Bailey threw six innings allowing five runs on 10 hits to drop his first decision (6-1) all year.

On the other hand, Warrior starter Zach Clanton tossed a quality game. He allowed just one run on a Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie) RBI-double over 5.1 innings to notch the win (6-1).

Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) shined at the plate in game two going 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Rosenhan and Chase Pittsenbarger (Las Vegas, NV/Las Vegas) each added two hits as the Storm outhit LCSC in game two 11-10.

The series concludes with a single game Sunday at noon.
