(DSC) – Jaki Hawkins' walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Dixie State to a 2-1 win over Sonoma State in the Mizuno Tournament of Champions Saturday. “That home run was unbelievable,” said DSC coach Beth Collett. “She really smashed it. It came on a full count. That was all the drama my heart can take.” Hawkins' homer made a winner of Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School), who struck out eight while giving up just three hits. “Lauren pitched really well,” Collett said. “I'm so proud of her.” Earlier in the day the Red Storm (34-9) lost a 5-4 decision to Cal State San Bernadino in eight innings. Bailie Hicken (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak High School) and Ashley McFarland (Layton. UT/Layton High School) each had two hits for the Red Storm in that game. Dixie State finished 3-2 in pool play and advanced to the gold bracket of the tournament. The Red Storm will play Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday.
