CS Dominguez Hills End's Red Storm run in the Mizuno Tournament of Champions

Despite Folta's strong performance

Box Score (DSC SOFTBALL) Dixie State’s quest for the championship of the Mizuno Tournament of Champions came to an end Sunday when the Red Storm (34-10) dropped a 1-0 decision to Cal State Dominguez Hills. Although the Red Storm’s Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) gave up just five hits in a complete game, she was the loser. She struck out three and didn’t walk anyone. She gave up the winning run, which was unearned, in the fourth inning when Dixie State committed its only error. Dixie State had just three hits – from Ashley McFarland (Layton. UT/Layton High School), Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) and Nellie Hardy -- as Dominguez Hills’ Regina Farfan won her 20th game. Folta’s record dropped to 11-3. “It was a great tournament as far as seeing what’s out there,” said DSC coach Beth Collett. “Our three wins (the Red Storm went 3-3) were good ones, but we don’t know if they’ll be good enough to get us into regionals. We’ll see. “We’re disappointed in the outcome because we wanted to come in and win it to ensure ourselves a spot in regionals,” she added. “People now know who we are and realize that we’re a good ball club, but we won’t know for several weeks if we’re good enough.” The Red Storm will wrap up the regular season next Saturday when they entertain Grand Canyon in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader.
