Box Score 2 KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (DSC) – Dixie State’s
Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) and Hawaii-Hilo’s Amber Waracka traded pitching gems as the Red Storm and Vulcans split a doubleheader Thursday.
Folta scattered six hits in a 2-0 victory while Waracka outdueled DSC’s
Jessie Kaonohi (Lancaster. CA/Antelope Valley High School) 1-0 in Pacific West Conference softball action. She struck out three. Waracka was the loser in the opener.
Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) drove in the winning run with a double in the third inning. Nellie Hardy provided insurance with a seventh-inning solo home run.
Bailie Hicken (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak High School) singled and stole second in the third. Following
Shantae Hunter (Idaho Falls. ID/Idaho Falls High School)’s sacrifice bunt, Egge recorded her run-scoring double.
Hunter and
Haley Schumers (Plain City. UT/Freemont High School) each had two of seven hits for the Red Storm (13-3, 24-4).
In the second game, Waracka and Kaonihi both scattered four hits. Waracka struck out nine while Kaonihi struck out four.
The Vulcans (8-7, 15-12) got the only run of the game in the second inning. Aisha Sueda singled and took second on a wild pitch. After Jessica Schatz walked, Dana Lee singled to drive the run home.
Dixie State, which went 5-3 on its Hawaii trip, will be at home for its next six games. The Red Storm play at Karl Brooks Field March 26, 27 and 28. They will play Hawaii Pacific, Chaminade and BYU-Hawaii respectively in those games.
