HPU ends DSC streak with doubleheader sweep of Red Storm

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HONOLULU, Hawaii (DSC) – Hawaii Pacific's Courtney Kessell and Sherise Musquiz shut down Dixie State 6-0and 2-0 and took over first place in the Pacific West Conference softball standings on Monday. The Sea Warriors (9-1, 19-3) ended a 13-game winning streak for the Red Storm (10-2, 21-3). "Today was a disappointing day for Dixie," said coach Beth Collett. "Haley Schumers (Plain City. She gave up three hits and no runs. "In the second game Jesse Kaonohi pitched four and 2/3 innings and gave up both runs. Whipple finished solidly again," Collett said. Krystal Plunkett had a three-run home run to pace the Sea Warriors' first-game win. Dabney McIntyre (Taylorsville. UT/Taylorsville High School), Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) and Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) had the three hits off Kessell. Kaonohi and Musquiz engaged in a pitching duel in the second game. The Sea Warriors got the winning run in the fourth inning. Casey Sugihara started things with a walk. Plunkett singled to move the runner along and Ashley Fernandez singled to drive home the run. Hawaii Pacific added an insurance run in the fifth inning. Shantae Hunter (Idaho Falls. ID/Idaho Falls High School) and Mendenhall each had two hits for Dixie State in that game.
