Softball runs streak to 13 games with wins over BYU-Hawaii

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAIE, Hawaii (DSC) – Dixie State blasted 20 hits in sweeping a Pacific West Conference doubleheader over BYU-Hawaii 4-1 and 7-4 in women's softball Saturday. Dabney McIntyre (Taylorsville. UT/Taylorsville High School) and Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) each had four hits as the Red Storm (10-0, 21-1) downed the Seasiders (3-7, 7-17). In game one Haley Schumers (Plain City. UT/Freemont High School) also added two hits as Dixie State collected nine. Nellie Hardy had two runs batted in to lead in that category. Schumers got the win in the circle as she scattered five hits and struck out five. Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) had three hits, including a double, in the game two victory. Brittnie Whipple got the pitching win with 5 1/3 innings in relief of Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School). BYU-Hawaii jumped on Folta for four runs in the second inning, bringing on Whipple. The Red Storm used a two-out rally in the third inning to take the lead. Whipple was tough thereafter as she struck out nine batters and allowed just two hits. In that big inning Egge doubled with one out. Following a second out Schumers singled. Mendenhall then singled to drive in one run. After Jaki Hawkins (Lakewood. WA/Lakes High School) walked, Kourtnie Schlacter (Mira Loma. CA/Jurupa Valley High School) doubled home two more runs. Bailie Hicken (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak High School) was safe on an error, McIntyre singled in a run and Shantae Hunter (Idaho Falls. ID/Idaho Falls High School) doubled in another to wrap up the rally. The Red Storm have six more games on their Hawaii trip before returning home for games on March 26, 27 and 28. They will play at second-place Hawaii Pacific on Monday, at Chaminade on Tuesday and at Hawaii-Hilo on Thursday.
