Red Storm Hold Off Hawaii Pacific Surge (2/14/2009)

ST. GEORGE. UT – Tanya Clark (Beaumont. CA/Beaumont) scored a season-high 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds to help the host Red Storm weather a late Hawaii Pacific run and defeat the Sea Warriors 79-73 on Valentine's night inside the Burns Arena.



Dixie State improved to 13-9 overall and 6-3 in the Pacific West Conference.  The win moved DSC into sole possession of second-place in front of HPU (10-13. 6-4). The Red Storm remains unbeaten in the Burns Arena at 8-0.



Including Clark. four Red Strom players reached double figures in scoring – Jessie Ingraham (Tuscon. AZ/Canyon Del Oro) (13). Courtney Boyd (Keokuk. IA/Keokuk) (12) and Courtney Spawn (Mesquite. NV/ Virgin Valley) with 11. a collegiate career high. Clark. Ingraham and Boyd each had seven rebounds.



Hawaii Pacific was paced by Tiffany Wilson with 18 points. Paris Gravely with 16 and Genesis Lewis with a double-double (10 points/12 rebounds). HPU's season scoring leader. Mana Hopkins. was held to 10 points.



Dixie State played an all-around solid first half to build a 16-point advantage after 20 minutes. The lead crested to 24 at the 17:26 mark of the second half. but HPU outscored DSC 40-20 over the next 15 minutes to cut the lead to four. The Red Storm had clutch free throws from Boyd and Lindsey Chettinger (Sergeant Bluff. IA/Sergeant Bluff) in the final minute to preserve the win.



The Red Storm finished shooting 29-66 (43.9-percent) from the field including 8-of-20 from beyond the arc. Hawaii Pacific shot 37.3-percent from the field and 93.3-percent (14-15) from the free-throw line.



Dixie State will return to action Friday night February 20 against the Seasiders of BYU-Hawaii. Tip is scheduled for 5:30pm.
