Box Score HONOLULU. HI – Deney Phommabout (West Valley CIty. UT/Hillcrest) and BreAnne Haslam (Mountain Green. UT/Morgan) led the Dixie State attack off the bench Saturday night as the visiting Red Storm defeated the Hawaii Pacific University Sea Warriors 77-73 in Pacific West Conference action inside the Neil Blaisdell Center.
Dixie State extends its current win streak to three and improves to 4-1 in conference play. 11-7 overall. HPU dropped its first game in the Pac West (5-1) and second in a row (8-10).
Phommabout scored 18 points to lead all Red Storm in scoring with 15 coming in a frantic first half. Haslam found open space in the paint and posted 14 points.
"I told Bre she was a game changer tonight. In my opinion. she won us the game" said Dixie State Head Coach Angie Kristensen. "Deney is an instant spark every time she comes in. we have to have that from her off the bench."
Jessie Ingraham (Tuscon. AZ/Canyon Del Oro) and Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) each had 11 points to round out the four Dixie players in double figures. Tanya Clark (Beaumont. CA/Beaumont) had another solid contest with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Sea Warriors took the early lead at 8-2 shooting over 65-percent from the field. Dixie stepped up its game and used a 7-0 run to tie the game at 22-22. The lead changed hands three times over the final 7:10. It looked like HPU was going to take a 39-38 lead in to the half until a last second foul sent Megan Tidwell (Poway. CA/Poway) to the line. Tidwell hit both freebies and put the Red Storm up 40-39.
DSC used two quick three-pointers to open up the second half and push the lead to five. 48-43. After trading buckets. Dixie State notched a 7-0 run to build a nine-point lead. HPU would retake a 63-62 lead at the 7:50 mark with a 12-0 run of their own. Dixie State answered the Sea Warrior run by blanking HPU 10-0 over the next four minutes. Clutch free-throws from Phommabout and Ingraham sealed the DSC win by four.
Tiffany Wilson led the Sea Warriors with 22 points and eight boards. Mana Hopkins (17). Paris Gravelly (16) and Genesis Lewis (13) combined with Wilson for 68 of HPU's 73 points.
