Red Storm run by Western State 72-63

Daniels scores 12 and Siqueiros adds 11

DURANGO, CO- Freshman forward Deanna Daniels (North Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) scored 12 points and junior college transfer Veronica Siqueiros (Phoenix, AZ/Trevor G Brown) added 11 points to pace the Red Storm to a 72-63 victory over Western State College of Colorado.
 
The Mountaineers drop to 1-1 on the season after winning yesterday over Midwestern State. Western State was led by Brooke Pendergraft (17 points/9 rebounds) and Katie Hall (14/8).
 
Daniels added six rebounds, one block, and was six for nine from the floor and Siqueiros added four assists, and six rebounds. Freshman Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) contributed with nine points and nine rebounds.
 
Dixie State was outpaced early in the game, trailing by as many as six points, when freshman guard Chanel Maxey (Anaheim, CA/Canyon) buried a 3-pointer with 15:46 left to give the Red Storm a 7-6 lead. DSC never trailed in the game again and the Red Storm led by nine points at the break.
 
Western State battled back and tied the game at 43 with 16:15 left in the game on a Krista Cona layup. But DSC went on a 24-11 run and built a 13 point lead to put the Mountaineers away.
 
Despite committing 21 turnovers, the Red Storm shot 40.3% from the floor and won the rebounding war 46-39 to pull out the victory.
 
Dixie State will play host to three schools in the Dixie State Thanksgiving Tournament. #5 Fort Lewis (CO), Academy of Art (CA), and Pittsburg State (KS) will come to town for a Friday November 27 and Saturday November 28 battle.
 
The Red Storm will face Pittsburg State on Friday for a 5:30 PM tipoff and Saturday afternoon 3:00 PM game against #5 Fort Lewis.
