SAN MATEO, CA- The Dixie State College volleyball team traveled to the San Francisco area for a Pacific West Conference tilt against Academy of Art University. The Red Storm defeated the Urban Knights 23-25, 28-30, 25-15, 25-20, 15-12.
Despite losing the first two games of the match, the Red Storm (17-7, 11-4) battled back in style and won the five-game thriller over the AAU (18-15, 5-11).
The Red Storm had four players in double figures in kills.
Katie Luna (Mesa. AZ/Westwood High '05) and
Madisyn Fitzgerald (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View) each had 20 kills a piece, followed by
Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City) will 13 and Brita Noble with 11.
Fitzgerald who is seeing more action due to the injury to
Morgan Hill (Logan. UT/Logan), has capitalized on her playing time and added 2 solo blocks and 4 block assists to the already stellar night swinging. Her 20 kills sets a career high for her.
Academy of Arts was lead by Dan Yang's match high 26 kills.
The Red Storm are trying to finish the season with one more victory tomorrow night to secure and 2nd place finish in the Pacific West Conference race. In the preseason poll the Red Storm were picked to finish 5th.
Dixie State will finish their season tomorrow afternoon at Notre Dame de Namur University. The match is scheduled for first serve at 2:00 PM.
