DSC Women Blow Out Chaminade (1/3/2009)

ST. GEORGE. UT – Dixie State College opened with  a 21-2 run and never looked back to defeat the visiting Silverswords of Chaminade 95-36 Saturday afternoon in Burns Arena.



Junior center BreAnne Haslam (Mountain Green. UT/Morgan) led all scorers with 15 points on 5-11 shooting from the field. Deney Phommabout (West Valley CIty. UT/Hillcrest) chipped in 15 off the bench before fouling out. Lindsey Chettinger (Sergeant Bluff. IA/Sergeant Bluff). making her return to the court after a three-game absence due to injury. played solid and deposited 13 points including three shot from beyond the arc.



Every DSC player in uniform scored at least four points. Dixie improved to 7-5 on the season. 1-0 in the Pac West Conference. Chaminade dropped to 0-8 (0-1 Pac West) and extended their losing streak to 34 games.



A Phommabout three pointer with 8:55 left. assisted by Courtney Boyd (Keokuk. IA/Keokuk). capped off Dixie's blitzing run. Chettinger's three-ball capped off the first half giving Dixie a 47-12 advantage after 20 minutes.



Chaminade never fully adjusted to the Dixie presses committing 31 total turnovers including 22 DSC steals.



Dixie State's reserves shined in the second half paced by junior center Megan Tidwell (Poway. CA/Poway). She capped off a sound performance with nine points and nine rebounds. both season highs.



Chaminade shot 30 percent for the game (15-50) and 5 of 14 (35 percent) from the free throw line. Dixie State connected on 47 percent (35-74) with eight coming from beyond the arc. Dixie outrebounded Chaminade 56-30.



Dixie State will continue Pac West Conference play on January 17. 2009 against Hawaii Hilo University.  Tip is scheduled at 5:30 p.m.
