Box Score PHOENIX. AZ – A record-setting night for Courtney Boyd (Keokuk. IA/Keokuk) (Sr. Keokuk. IA) ended on a bittersweet note. Dixie State fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in the Pacific West Conference dropping a road contest to host Grand Canyon University 90-75 Thursday night in the Antelope Gym.
Boyd sank seven three-pointers. a new DSC record for threes in a game. to lead all scorers with a season-high 23 points. The previous record was six held by current Dixie guard Deney Phommabout (West Valley CIty. UT/Hillcrest) (Sr. West Valley City. UT) and former Rebel Tiara Bowman.
Dixie hit 15 overall three-pointers in 32 attempts. but could not find any consistency closer to the hoop hitting just 9-of-33 from two-point range. DSC held its only lead at 5-2 at the 16:22 mark of the first half but played from behind the remainder of the game.
The loss snapped Dixie's winning streak at four and dropped their overall record to 8-6. 2-1 in conference action. The Antelopes of GCU remain undefeated in conference at 4-0 and 10-6 overall.
Three DSC starters. including Boyd. reached double figures in scoring. Jessie Ingraham (Tuscon. AZ/Canyon Del Oro) (Jr. Tucson. AZ) scored all 14 of her points in the second half while Lindsey Chettinger (Sergeant Bluff. IA/Sergeant Bluff) (Sr. Sergeant Bluff. IA) chipped in 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting from downtown.
Ball handling issues plagued Dixie from the opening tip. Grand Canyon forced 31 Dixie turnovers including 15 steals leading to 30 GCU points.
The Antelopes were led by Rosalyn Nelson and Stacy Haddow. each with a double-double. Nelson has 21 points and 10 assists while Haddow scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Samantha Murphy had 20 points. seven assists and seven steals from the guard post.
Grand Canyon finished the game shooting 59-percent from the floor and 87.5-percent at the free-throw line.
The two teams face off again Friday night in non-conference action with tipoff at 5:30 p.m. Mountain from Phoenix.
