Morgan scores twice in final 15 minutes. the last with four seconds left

BELLINGHAM. Wash. --- Forward Claire Morgan (So.. Bellingham) scored two goals in the final 15 minutes. including the game-winner with four seconds remaining. as Western Washington University fought back to defeat Dixie State College. 2-1. in a non-conference women's soccer contest Saturday afternoon at Orca Field on the Whatcom CC campus.

The Vikings improved to 4-2-0. while Dixie State fell to 3-3-2

Morgan's game winner came on a free kick from 25 yards out on the right side. The ball went over the defensive wall and grazed off the shoulder of a Dixie State defender into the far corner of the net.

Fourteen minutes earlier. Morgan tied the score at 1-1 as her shot from 20 yards on the left-side found its way into the bottom right corner. Kelly Irving (Jr.. Gig Harbor) was credited with an assist.

Dixie State broke a scoreless tie in the 56th minute. Mikala Wilkes (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak HS '06) came down the middle and crossed to Erin Beeston (Edmond, OK/Edmond North). who lined a shot over the goaltender into the top right-hand corner of the net.

Western defender Brynn Regan (Jr.. Mercer Island) left the game near the end of the first half with a jaw injury.

“It really shook the team to see Regan go down with the injury.” said Western coach Travis Connell. “but they really rallied for her in the second half and I think she was a big part of the heart we showed today.”

Western had advantages of 20-10 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks.

The Vikings next begin Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. traveling to Western Oregon University on Thursday (1 p.m.).
