In the first of a four-game road trip to the islands. Dixie State dropped a 25-19. 28-26. 16-25. 25-19 decision to Hawaii Pacific late Tuesday night in Honolulu.
Cami Johnson (Morgan. UT/Morgan HS '06) paced DSC (3-4 Pac West. 7-10) with 13 kills. while Katie Luna (Mesa. AZ/Westwood High '05). Mariesa Nielson (Oak City. UT/Delta High '05) and Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City) each added 10. Luna also had 10 digs.
One big factor that hurt Dixie State in the match was blocking. The Sea Warriors (4-3. 7-10) had 21 blocks in the match to only six for DSC.
"We just got outblocked really badly. That hasn't happened to us in two years." said DSC interim coach Gregg Jensen. "If we play the way we did last weekend (in a home win over Hawaii-Hilo). we'll be OK."
DSC continued its road trip late Wednesday night at Pac West leader BYU-Hawaii. They will play four matches - two with the Sea Warriors and two with the Seasiders - in Hawaii over five days.
