David Richards is in his fourth season as an assistant coach in the Dixie State women’s volleyball program. Richards brings to the Trailblazer program decades of playing and coaching experience.
Richards played collegiate volleyball at Brigham Young University under Head Coach Carl McGown and was a member of the United States Men’s National Team from 1978-80. Following his playing career, he served as USA Men’s Paralympic head coach, USA Volleyball Youth Camps director, and, along with his late wife Lori, coached the Utah Valley University women’s volleyball program for 11 seasons.
In addition, Richards was the head men’s club volleyball coach at UVU and the founder and coach of Players VBC in Utah, Idaho and northern California. Through the VBC program, he has helped train thousands of athletes, many of whom have gone on to play collegiately across the country and professionally around the world.
A 1983 graduate of BYU, Richards and his wife, Susette, are the parents of eight children. His daughter Kristin (Richards) Hildebrand played collegiately at Stanford, was part of the USA National Team’s 2014 FIVB World Championship gold medal-winning team, and played professionally for eight year. In addition, daughter, Lauren, and son, Taylor, played college volleyball at BYU, while another son, Andrew, played collegiately at Utah Valley.
