For a stellar week at the dish, junior outfielder Courtney Sherwin has been named Dixie State Female Athlete of the Week, presented by Northwestern Mutual.
Sherwin continued her hot hitting; picking up her second conference honor in three weeks and helping Dixie State extend its winning streak to 17 games. Sherwin batted .500 (7-14) with five extra-base hits, five RBI and five runs scored. In a four-game series with BYU-Hawaii, Sherwin hit three doubles, a triple and a home run to drive in five runs. She has recorded a hit in 23 of her last 24 games, including 10-straight. She ranks fifth in the PacWest in batting average (.417) and eighth in hits (58). She earned Pacific West Conference Player of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks.
This is Sherwin’s first Athlete of the Week award this season.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Mallory Paulson (SOFT) - Paulson was another hot hitter for the Red Storm, contributing to the team's .387 batting average and 31 runs in five games. She batted .538 (7-13) with four extra-base hits, four RBI and three runs scored. She was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run, the first of her career, as Dixie State completed a four-game sweep of BYU-Hawaii. Paulson has reached base safely in 10-straight games, recording a hit in nine of them. She was named Pacific West Conference Newcomer of the Week.
Michelle Duncan (SOFT) – The junior pitcher went 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA for the week. Duncan allowed one earned run on four hits over 16 innings. She struck out 13 batters and allowed only one extra base hit. Duncan threw consecutive one-hitters on April 14-15 against BYU-Hawaii. She then allowed only two hits over four innings against Division I Southern Utah on April 17.
