Dixie State Baseball Announces All-Decade and D-II Era Teams

Ahead of its NCAA Division I debut this upcoming February, the Dixie State Baseball program has unveiled its "All-Decade" and "All-Division II Era" teams. The list is dotted with All-America, all-region and all-conference selections, as well as a couple players currently with Major League Baseball organizations.

DIXIE STATE'S ALL-DECADE TEAM (2011-2020)
Dixie State won three Pacific West Conference titles during the decade and made six-straight NCAA Division II West Regional tournament appearances from 2012-17. DSU played to a 310-160-1 (.659) overall record over that 10-year span, highlighted by a four-year era record 40 victories (40-14) in 2016 and a 39-14-1 mark in 2017.

AROUND THE HORN
Two first basemen, two second basemen and one shortstop make up the All-Decade infield. At first base, Tyson Littlewood (2009-12) was a career .294 hitter who finished with 24 home runs and 114 RBI over his four-year career at Dixie State. Littlewood, who was a 2011 all-PacWest and all-West Region selection, and a 2011 College Baseball Lineup All-America selection, is currently ranked in the top-10 all-time in career home runs (3rd, 24), doubles (t-9th, 28), at-bats (9th), runs (t-8th, 120), RBI (5th, 114), total bases (5th) and walks (3rd, 86).

Also at first base, Logan Porter (2017-18) will go down as one of the best overall hitters in program history. In just two seasons at Dixie State, Porter batted .344 with 16 home runs (t-7th all-time) and 112 RBI (6th all-time), including a single-season record 72 RBI in 2017 on his way to all-PacWest honors. Porter is currently seventh in career batting and is ranked in the top-10 in career doubles (5th, 33), slugging percentage (5th), walks (t-7th, 74) and HBPs (t-1st, 27). Porter is currently a member of the Kansas City Royals minor league system.

Dixie State enjoyed an eight-year span where the question of who played second base was an easy answer. Drew McLaughlin (2014-17), who was a four-time all-PacWest and two-time all-region pick, ended his four-year career with his name all over the Dixie State record books and is the program's single season (91) and career (291) hits leader. McLaughlin batted .360 (4th all-time) in his storied career and is currently the program's career record holder for games played (204) and started (200), at-bats (808), runs (185) and total bases (371). He is also ranked in the top-10 all-time in career doubles (t-2nd, 46), triples (t-5th, 5), RBI (7th, 110), walks (10th, 64) and stolen bases (2nd, 32).

Before McLaughlin took over at second base, Colton Yack (2010-13) patrolled the right side of the infield for four solid years. Yack, who batted .326 with three homers and 85 RBI, was a three-time all-PacWest honoree and 2012 all-region selection. Yack started in 170 (5th all-time) of 180 (5th all-time) games played and wound up in the career top-10 in at-bats (3rd), runs (t-4th, 122), hits (3rd, 192), total bases (6th), walks (t-7th, 74) and stolen bases (t-3rd, 25). Yack also got the job done defensively as he was a 2012 ABCA/Rawlings West Region Gold Gloves Team honoree, and finished with a career .959 fielding percentage in 749 total chances.

The shortstop of the decade is Tanner Morache (2015-16), who was tabbed at the PacWest's Newcomer of the Year in 2015 and was a 2016 All-America selection. In his two seasons in a DSU uniform, he teamed with McLaughlin to form arguably the most formidable middle infield duo in the country. He was a career .374 (2nd all-time) hitter at DSU with 31 career doubles (t-6th all-time), including a single season record 22 doubles in his All-American season in 2016. A two-time all-PacWest pick, Morache finished with five homers and 72 RBI, and finished his two seasons at DSU ranked in the top-10 all-time in slugging percentage (10th) and total bases (10th).

FROM POLE TO POLE
The lone current player to make either the All-Decade and D-II era teams is senior All-American outfielder Jake Engel (2017-current). Arguably one of the best clutch and power hitters in program history, Engel enjoyed a banner season in 2019, during which he batted .385 with 14 home runs and 52 RBI on his way to first team all-RMAC, first team all-South Central Region, and D2CCA and Rawlings first team All-America honors, along with third team ABCA/Rawlings All-America accolades.

Engel was off to a solid start to the 2020 season, during which he hit .458 with six homers and 26 RBI in 16 games before the season abruptly ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, he became the first player in the program's NCAA era to hit in 20-straight games and enters the 2021 campaign with a 21-game hit streak. Heading into his second senior season, Engel is currently ranked fifth in career batting (.355), fourth in slugging percentage (.620), fourth in home runs (22), eighth in RBI (108), seventh in total bases (229) and 11th in runs (102).

Left fielder Jordan Hanley (2010-13) was a mainstay in the DSU outfield for four seasons and was a 2013 all-PacWest and all-West Region selection. He finished his career as a .326 hitter with three home runs and 64 RBI in 176 career games (6th all-time), including 128 starts (10th all-time). In all, Hanley is currently ranked in the top-10 all-time in career at-bats (10th, 460), runs (10th, 103), hits (10th, 150), walks (5th, 84), and HBPs (t-9th, 14).

One of the best defensive outfielders in program history, Trey Kamachi (2014-17) was a force in right field during his four years at Dixie State. Kamachi announced his presence with authority in his debut season in 2014 as he was named the PacWest Freshman of the Year and earned all-conference and all-West Region honors.

Kamachi also earned all-PacWest recognition in 2016 and 2017 (first team), and was a 2017 first team all-West Region pick. He closed his four-year career as DSU's all-time leader in stolen bases (43) and HBPs (t-1st, 27), and finished in the top-10 all-time in batting (8th, .3378), games played (3rd, 190) and started (3rd, 187), at-bats (2nd, 666), runs (2nd, 173), hits (2nd, 225), triples (4th, 6), RBI (3rd, 120), total bases (4th, 289) and walks (4th, 85). As strong as he was at the plate, he was also a defensive standout as he finished with a career .986 fielding percentage with 15 outfield assists and only six total errors in 421 chances.

BEHIND THE PLATE/DESIGNATED HITTER
Joe Andrade (2011-12) is one of two Dixie State backstops who made the all-decade team. Andrade, who hit .309 with 31 doubles (t-6th all-time), seven home runs and 91 RBI in his two seasons with the program, was the 2012 PacWest Player of the Year and a two-time first team all-conference pick. In addition, he collected second team all-West Region honors and 2012 ABCA/Rawlings West Region Gold Gloves Team recognition.

The second catcher on the list is Jake Davison (2015-18), who himself was a two-time all-PacWest selection and was tabbed as the 2018 PacWest Defensive Player of the Year. He was a career .287 hitter in his four seasons at DSU and clubbed five homers and finished with 74 RBI, and is currently ranked 10th all-time in career games played (158).

Dixie State's all-decade designated hitter is Kevin Kline (2013-15), who split his time between both first base and DH throughout his three seasons at DSU. Kline was a three-time all-PacWest selection, earning first team honors during the 2014 and 2015 campaigns, and was a three-time second team all-West Region pick. He owned a .336 (#10 all-time) career batting average and is currently DSU's all-time leader in doubles (48) to go with 20 career home runs (t-5th all-time) and 139 RBI (#2 all-time). He is also ranked in the top-10 all-time in career slugging percentage (6th, .549), games started (8th, 147), runs (t-8th, 120), hits (5th, 180), total bases (3rd, 294) and HBPs (3rd, 25).

ON THE MOUND
Four Dixie State hurlers made it to the all-decade team, including three starting pitchers who combined to win 57 games, and the best closer in the program's NCAA era.

Righthander Dylan File (2015-17) was arguably the most dominant pitcher in the program's four-year era. In his three seasons, File, who was the 2015 PacWest Freshman of the Year and a two-time all-conference selection, posted a 20-4 record with a 3.71 ERA (#3 all-time), and he is currently DSU's NCAA-era career record holder for wins (20) and strikeouts (193). In addition, File is DSU's career leader in innings pitched (245.0) and shutouts (t-1st, 3), second in starts (38), third in ERA (3.71) and complete games (6), fourth in strikeouts/9IP (7.09), and seventh in total appearances (42). File parlayed his success into being drafted in the 21st round by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2017 MLB Draft, and in 2020, he was named to the Brewers' 40-man roster.

Fellow righthander Mason Hilty (2016-17) pitched two seasons with File, and the 1-2 duo in Dixie State's rotation combined to go 33-7 over those two campaigns. Hilty was the first pitcher in the DSU's NCAA Era to win 10 games, including his first nine decisions, when he went 10-1 in 2016 on his way to PacWest Newcomer of the Year, and second team all-conference and all-West Region honors. He followed that up with a 9-3 record in 2017, including a school single-season record three complete game shutouts, and again garnered second team all-PacWest and all-region accolades. Hilty is currently DSU's career walks/9IP record holder (1.62) and is tied atop DSU's career shutouts list (3). In additions, he is second in career wins (19) and ERA (3.29), third in career strikeouts (143) and strikeouts/9IP (7.24), and fourth in innings pitched (177.2) and complete games (t-5th, 5).

The third starting pitcher on the list is righthander Mike Dedrick (2011-13), who tallied 18 wins (#3 all-time, 18-12) over his three seasons at DSU. In 2012, the rightie posted a 6-5 record in a single season school record 15 starts with a 3.55 ERA en route to first team all-PacWest and honorable mention all-West Region honors. In all, he started in a school record 40 career games and finished his three year career ranked in the top-10 all-time in appearances (t-9th, 41), innings pitched (2nd, 241.1 IP), ERA (5th, 3.77), strikeouts (2nd, 183), and strikeouts/9IP (5th, 6.82).

Record-breaking reliever Evan Parker (2014-15) proved himself as one of the top closers in the country during his two seasons coming out of the Dixie State bullpen. Parker saved a school record 13 games in each of those two campaigns and is currently DSU's career saves leader with 26. He was a two-time first team all-PacWest selection and earned first team all-West Region honors in 2015. Overall, Parker made 45 appearances (#5 all-time) and posted a 2-3 record to go with a 2.05 career ERA and 49 strikeouts in 48.1 innings pitched.

DIXIE STATE'S ALL-DIVISION II TEAM (2007-2020)
Dixie State won four Pacific West Conference titles in its 14-year NCAA Division II era to go with the six-straight NCAA Division II West Regional tournament appearances from 2012-17. DSU won 424 games (424-240-1) and posted a .638 winning percentage.

But what is most impressive is that Dixie State never had a losing season in those 14 seasons and won 30 or more games 10 times, highlighted by a four-year era record 40 victories (40-14) in 2016 and a 39-14-1 mark in 2017. DSU was just as impressive in conference play as the program posted a 254-125-1 (.669) record against PacWest/RMAC opponents. In addition, the program finished in the top-three in the league standings 10 times in 11 complete conference seasons (2020 season canceled after four RMAC games due to COVID-19 pandemic).

AROUND THE HORN
Along with Littlewood, McLaughlin, Morache and Yack, Kyle Pratt (2007-08) made the cut for the All-Division II team. Pratt was the offensive cornerstone of DSU's first two NCAA seasons, during which he batted over .400, highlighted by a then school-record .420 average with 17 doubles in 2007. He followed that up with a .409 average a year later, which led to him to his current perch atop DSU's career batting list with a .414 average. Pratt also stands third all-time in career slugging percentage (.643) and is ranked in the top-10 in career doubles (8th, 30), home runs (9th, 14), RBI (10th, 102) and total bases (8th, 214).

FROM POLE TO POLE
Joining Engel and Kamachi on DSU's All-Division II team is All-American Brett Adams (2008-10). Adams became DSU's first four-year era All-American in 2010 when he set a single season school record in batting .423 with 14 doubles, 17 homers and 64 RBI in a season where he was tabbed PacWest Player of the Year, first team Daktronics All-West Region and Daktronics Third Team All-America. A year earlier in 2009, Adams collected second team all-PacWest and all-region after he hit .353 with 17 doubles, nine home runs and 50 RBI.

Along with his single season batting record, Adams also owns DSU's single game record for doubles (4 vs. Grand Canyon in 2018), single season records for slugging percentage (.865) and total bases (135) set in 2010, and is DSU's career RBI leader with 147. In all, he is ranked in the top-10 all-time in 11 career categories, including batting (3rd, .372), slugging percentage, games started (9th, 146), at-bats (7th, 511), runs (3rd, 145), hits (4th, 190), doubles (2nd, 46), home runs (2nd, 30), total bases (2nd, 334) and walks (9th, 73).

BEHIND THE PLATE/DESIGNATED HITTER
Along with Andrade and Kline, catcher Drew Oldfield (2009-10) is the second backstop on the catcher/DH list for the DSU All-Division II era team. Oldfield is Dixie State's home run king with 31 over his two seasons and is also the program's all-time leader in slugging percentage (.683).

Oldfield owns two of the top-four home run totals in program history, highlighted by a single-season record 19 homers in 2009, which helped earn him first team All-PacWest honors. He also hit 12 long balls in 2010, which ranks him fourth on DSU's season list, and helped him garner second team all-conference accolades. Oldfield, who was a career .324 hitter, is ranked fourth all-time in career RBI (117) and ninth in total bases (213).

ON THE MOUND
File, Hilty, Dedrick and Parker also made the cut as the four pitchers on DSU's All-Division II team.
